Christian Bale

The Welsh boy who caught the eye of Steven Spielberg at 13 years of age, when he was first featured in Empire of The Sun he has since sped to fame in the last decade at a surging pace. Known as one of the largest internet cult figures from his many notable catch phrases and portrayals of interesting characters such as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Further adding to a credible filmography, Bale's representation of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight have made him a suitable actor for success in the box office.
                                    Sharp, suave, and Welsh

More recently Christian Bale stars in The Fighter  as Dickie Eklund next to Mark Wahlberg who plays the famed boxer Micky Ward. Despite the fact that Mark Wahlberg prepared for 4 whole years for the lead roll, Christian Bale's Portrayal absolutely mimics Dickie Eklund, in a scarily identical representation. Perhaps award nomination talk is early, but he definitely does his job as an actor well, transforming himself time and time again to fit his roll, visually and vocally. Just check him out as he does a different accent for every single movie!

Thanks Christian Bale for filling PWEU's shoes as the person who entertains us!

Joel and Ethan Coen

Joel David Coen and Ethan Jesse Coen are two of the most influential American film makers known better as the "Coen Brothers".  The brothers write, direct, edit, and produce their own films together. This combination is nothing more than a winner, with a line of cult classics, such as Fargo and the Big Lebowski and great films, such as No Country For Old Men taking the Oscar for Picture of the year in 2007.

                                         Two film legends.

The latest addition to the line of great films by the Coen Brothers is True Grit, a remake of the 1969 Western film of the same name, starring  John Wayne, based on the 1968 novel. The remake stars Matt Daemon, Josh Brolin, and my person who entertained me from last time; Jeff Bridges. The Coen brothers have made another masterpiece, as the film not only has grossed the most in this weeks line of block busters, but also has one of the highest user voted scores on www.IMDB.com of 8.3, securing it a place on the top #250 films of all time!

Heres to great film making and a big thanks to the Coen Brothers for being two brothers who entertained us this week.

Eddie Izzard And The Bucket of Inspiration

With the start of the year having just passed us by, many of us may already be struggling to keep our resolutions. So for this week's PWEU (i think it should be pronounced "phew!") I'll introduce you to a man who's as inspiring as he is entertaining:

220px-EddieIzzard.jpg
Eddie Izzard (born 7 February 1962) is an English actor and stand-up comedian. You may remember seeing him playing minor parts in Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen, or as the Nazi dissenter in the 2010 movie Valkyrie, but he is, to me, most memorable for his comedy bit as Darth Vader in the Death Star's canteen.

believe_home.jpg
Izzard has recently released a biopic titled "Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story" which encompasses the story of his struggle to be a performer. During his teenage years, his choice of university education revolved around his ambition of appearing at the Edinburgh Festival, an annual performance arts pilgrimage for many in the UK. This endeavour ended in relative failure and the story continues to trace his years performing on the street, honing his skills to be the delightful comedy act he is today. Having been repeatedly tickled thoroughly pink by his stand-up comedy performances, it was surprising to learn how long he took to become widely acclaimed success he is now.

With success and acclimation under his belt, Izzard has continued to challenge himself, landing leading roles on American television and even parts on big budget Hollywood films. In 2009, he took part in Sport Relief, a biennial charity event, and ran 43 marathons in 51 days despite having never been a long distance runner.

Eddie Izzard is a fantastic inspirational story. His talent and success are the result of years of hard work on the street. Our own lack of innate talent is no longer a good excuse to keep us from getting out of our chairs.

Are you out of your chairs yet? No? Then sit back and watch some of the best comedy ever performed as he conclude this week's PWEU!

Kings of Leon

This week we take a look at a band with enough inertia to move mountains; Kings of Leon. There seems to be no stopping the band of brothers and a cousin on their rise to super stardom. Having had three number one singles on their previous album, only by their night, their new album released in October 2010 is also set to become a hit, and they’ve now announced international tour, which is slated to come to Australia in March. For those who don’t know, Kings of Leon have been able to sell out stadiums in less than half an hour, breaking international records set in the past by bands such as the Led Zeplin.

Kings of Leon are touring Australia in March 2011

Having previously toured as the opening act for bands and performers such as U2, and Bob Marley, Kings of Leon sure know their way around fame. Their garage band rock sound is produced by three brothers, Nathan, Caleb, and Jared Followill, and cousin, Matthew followill.

Thanks for rocking it out, and being not one, not two, but Four people who entertained us.

Jeff Bridges

sorry for the delayed post, the snow has been a hinderence.

A hippie colonel, a troubled musician, a penguin, A corporate villain, and now A bad ass Marshal from the wild west. These are just some of the memorable roles of one actor, Jeff Bridges. Bridges, a recent Oscar Winner for his role in Crazy heart also happens to be a previously established musician, when not on the big screen. The Oscar winner’s list of works shows that he isn’t only a true entertainer, but he sure knows how to pick characters with substance, and in the latest case, some “grit”.

Jeff Bridges stars as “Marshal Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn” in the latest Coen brother’s film, “True Grit”, based on the award winning 1968 novel of the same name. Along side Jeff Bridges; Matt Daemon, Josh Brolin, and Hailee Steinfeld fill the cast in this western film.

Check out the True Grit trailer here

Thanks for entertaining us Jeff Bridges.
And that does it for this week from People who entertain us!

My Muse

So MUSE recently hit up Sydney again last week at our very own Sydney Olympic Park, returning after their appearance at Big Day Out in January 2010.

For those who do not know them... (?!!?!!)
Muse is an English rock band from England, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, guitars, piano, keyboards, keytar), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, harmonica) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion, synthesisers, backing vocals, sampling). After the release of their 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations, keyboardist and percussionist Morgan Nicholls has performed live with the band.

They have released five studio albums: Showbiz (1999), Origin of Symmetry (2001), Absolution (2003), Black Holes and Revelations (2006), and The Resistance (2009).

Muse's primary genres are progressive rock, space rock, and alternative rock, but they also integrate parts of electronica, indie rock, rock opera, hard rock, and metal the band have cited artists such as Queen, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, David Bowie, The cure, Depeche Mode, Jeff Buckley and the Smashng pumpkins to name a few, as musical influences. Their songs are recognisable due to lead vocalist Matthew Bellamy's use of falsetto and vibrato influenced primarily by Jeff Buckley. Bellamy as a guitarist also utilises arpeggiator and Pitch-shift effects to create a more "electric" sound, with Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello as influences for this method.

Anyway tabloids seem to be taking more interest in Muse these days as Bellamy reveals that his songwriting has been influenced by his relationship with Hollywood star Kate Hudson whom he has been dating since April when they met at the Coachella festival.

Check them out as we conclude our PWEU for the week!
